What Really Matters?
Everyone pursues Health, Success, and Happiness. We achieve these results based on what we do every day. If we are feeling unhealthy, unsuccessful, or unhappy, are we enriching ourselves? As the movie, “Pay it Forward” shows, “What Really Matters” is focusing on those outcomes that matter to us. So, make the day count instead of counting days.
What did I do last week?
One reason why we slip on goals is because we aim high not relating to our existing life commitments. Looking back on what we have done the past week will give clues on what fills our current schedule. Knowing this baseline, we make incremental changes to succeed towards our goals.
What could I do this week?
With the knowledge of ambitious life goals and what fills our time, think of what we can do this week. This type of thinking accommodates the forces shaping our life while giving the power to make changes that we must do to accomplish life goals.
What is important, urgent, or happy?
Prioritizing mandatory things, we adjust schedules for happiness. It may be focusing on healthy goals like diet and exercise, or time with family, or working on life goals. As we iterate and increment happiness, we accommodate life's unscripted urgencies as they emerge. Ultimately, we end the day or week to our best extent possible.
What can I expect to get done?
Agility is focused on adapting to changes. Sometimes, we may not know course deviations that occurred or control the forces causing the deviation. While recognizing deviations and understanding change forces, we focus on life goals aligning to make our course corrections re-prioritizing our work ahead.
Who can help?
One of the critical leadership qualities is to understand that we are interdependent on others. As a result, accepting to seek help and check the availability of those that can support, mentor, coach, and guide us avoids unnecessary failure accelerating us towards our goals.
